Les Quennevais School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of its students and young people. We expect all staff and volunteers to share in this commitment. Our Recruitment and Selection Policy reflects this and is in line with the Education Department guidelines and Keeping Children Safe in Education (2023).
Safeguarding concerns are handled sensitively and professionally by appropriately trained, designated staff who are committed to supporting student well-being.
Externally we liaise with a range of professionals including CAMHS (Child and Adolescent Mental Health), MASH (Multi Agency Support Hub), Health professionals and Children’s Services to ensure that our young people feel safe and are protected from harm.
At Les Quennevais School we are working in partnership with States of Jersey Police and Children’s Services to identify and provide appropriate support to students who have experienced domestic violence/abuse in their household. This scheme is called Operation Encompass in the UK with Jersey developing a Domestic Abuse Protocol to mirror good practice. In order to achieve this, the Jersey Multi-agency Safeguarding Hub (MASH) will share police information of all domestic incidents where one of our students has been present with the Designated Safeguarding Lead(s) in school. On receipt of any information, the Designated Safeguarding Lead will decide on the appropriate support the child requires. We record this information and store it securely with the record keeping procedures outlined in this policy.
