Music

Les Quennevais School has a long-standing tradition of excellence in music. At the heart of everything we do is hands-on, practical music-making. The Music Department aims to develop our learners by fostering a lasting curiosity, interest and enjoyment of music that will stay with them into their adult lives. As such, they offer programmes of study that provide students with opportunities to develop into successful, creative, reflective and active participants. Students are given the opportunity to experience and learn a large range of instruments and musical styles.

Students in Years 7, 8 and 9 receive one period of music per week. At GCSE Level students receive 3 periods per week. The Department is well resourced with a practical music suite comprising of 4 fully equipped rock band rehearsal areas, a 20 piece Steel Pan Band rehearsal space and break off instrumental practice rooms. In addition the Department boasts a Music Technology Suite with 15 iMac computers running state of the art Logic ProX and Sibelius Software, a recording studio and a radio station room.

In addition to our curriculum success, Les Quennevais School boasts a renowned extra-curricular music programme. At the forefront of which is the Steel Pan Band, who undertake many professional engagements throughout the year and the exceptional annual musical production performed at the professional Opera House Theatre.
